Anthony (Tony) O. Daicar MD, FRCSC, FACS
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (retired)
Sculptor
Tony Daicar was born in Zlin, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) in 1932, and together with his parents emigrated to Canada in 1939. He has always been interested in Art, Architecture and especially Sculpture. However he chose to pursue a career in academic Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Since his first sculpture course at Queen's University in 1988, Tony has studied and worked in Sculpture at St. Lawrence College (Kingston and Brockville), the Haliburton School of the Arts with sculptors Douglas Stephens, Sandy Cline and Richard Gill, and in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with maestros Jesus Mendes at the Instituto Allende, David Kestenbaum at the Belles Artes, and with the Rangel-Gomez brothers in their studio-foundry.
Since retirement in 1996, Tony has taken up Sculpture as a second career, and consistent with his professional background, his favourite subject is the female form. His initial work was primarily bronze casting, found object and ceramic sculpture, but presently he is working exclusively in stone. He is currently working in alabaster, Brazilian, Quebec and Chinese soapstone, Indiana Limestone, and Carrara marble.
The sculptures are on display at Leading Edge Hobbies, 699 Gardiners Road (at Progress Ave.), Kingston Ontario, and can be purchased by contacting Tony Daicar at:
